Buccaneers Hammered by Stonis, Drop Game 1 to Hammerheads
|
The Cape Coral Hammerheads started the Wild Card Series in style, winning on the road against the Boca Raton Buccaneers at Indians Developmental Complex by a score of 7-5 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Hammerheads designated hitter Aaron Stonis excelled. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
Cape Coral used a clutch at-bat from Grayson Bartolomeo to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Hammerheads ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Cape Coral manager Senino Reyes told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Indians Developmental Complex in Boca Raton.
