Sánchez Excels, Sanibel Wins Wild Card Series Game 1
|
The Sanibel Sailors powered past the visiting Hollywood Spoonbills, 4-1, in the opener of the Wild Card Series at Sailors Ballpark. Sanibel starting pitcher Postiga Sánchez threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Sailors now lead the series 1-0.
Sanibel took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Steve Tapia hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Sailors fans to their feet.
"It's hard to overstate how much this mattered to us, especially in a short series," Sanibel manager Nate Howlett said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sailors Ballpark in Sanibel.
