Coral Springs Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
Their bats were silent and Coral Springs had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Manatees struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 19-year-old starter Carl Pedersen. The left-hander quieted the Pembroke Pines Herons at Ed Smith Stadium to help Coral Springs take the 3-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Regional Championship Series.

Elijah Stewart had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the seventh for Coral Springs. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Coral Springs in front, 3-1.

"We have been clicking right from the start of this series, so our mission statement at the moment is just don't tinker with anything," Coral Springs manager Angel Mendoza told reporters.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Charlotte Sports Park in Pembroke Pines.
