Rainiers Beat Triplets, 4-3, to Start WCS
|
The Tacoma Rainiers faced a tough opponent in Evansville Triplets pitcher Jonah Ballesteros, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series, which they now lead 1-0. The Rainiers won, 4-3, at BB&T Stadium, despite the Triplets getting a strong start from right-hander Ballesteros, who went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run.
Tacoma used the clutch hitting of Kevin Detterman to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainiers ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We're happy," Detterman told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at BB&T Stadium in Evansville.
