Portland Breaks Through for First Win in Wild Card Series; Now Trails 2-1
The Portland Sea Dogs have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Altoona Curve, winning, 9-1, at Hadlock Field. Sea Dogs right-hander Heath Spires threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Sea Dogs to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.

Luka Fallica took Altoona hurler Sherwin Sullivan deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 3-run home run put the Sea Dogs on top, 4-1. In all, Fallica had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Nice win for us," said Fallica. "Now we'll go after the next one."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hadlock Field in Portland.
