Vermont Win to Pull Even With West Virginia
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters and the West Virginia Black Bears will take the Wild Card Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Lake Monsters beat the Black Bears 5-1 at Dutchess Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Vermont right-hander Thomas Shultz had a big role in the win. He threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball.
Ray Bontoux, the 21-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Bontoux contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Vermont up, 2-1.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said West Virginia manager Scott Meissner.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dutchess Stadium in Morgantown.
