Threshers Hammered by Cano, Drop Game 3 to Spoonbills
|
The Hollywood Spoonbills moved to within one game of the Divisional Series today, downing the Clearwater Threshers on the road at Pirate City Complex by a score of 5-2. Spoonbills left fielder J.D. Cano went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The win gives the Spoonbills a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Wild Card Series.
The outcome might have been different for Hollywood, had it not been for Val McKinley, the 20-year old second baseman . McKinley stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Hollywood up, 4-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Win or lose, the second this season ends, I'm going on vacation," McKinley said in his postgame remarks.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pirate City Complex in Clearwater.
