The Somerset Patriots overcame a pretty good performance by Halifax center fielder Kenny Mathis, beating the Frigates, 10-7, in 12 innings. Mathis was 3 for 6 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Virgil Rios notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. The Patriots now own a record of 19-12.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Robbie Koller came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Halifax pitcher Lee Jonson, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Somerset on top, 8-7.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Koller. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
