The Somerset Patriots topped the Hartford Yard Goats, 5-2, in Eastern League action at Arm & Hammer Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Somerset pitcher Keith Shea. The winner was Shea. He threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Maxie Cofer. Fred Rich picked up the save, his 8th.
Arlen Florence, who is tied for 8th in the EL in doubles with 9, helped out the Somerset cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the center fielder was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.
"This team is on a mission," said Florence, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
Somerset is third in the Eastern League Southwest Division with a record of 20-13.
