Pilots Top Akron, 2-1
|
The Wichita Pilots racked up a win at Regions Field, bumping off the Akron RubberDucks, 2-1. Bennett Steffel, who started for Wichita, pitched effectively for his team. Reliever Micah McDevitt picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Serra Espinosa took the loss. At 22-17, the Pilots are currently second in the Eastern League Southwest Division.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Evan Bogue came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Akron pitcher Serra Espinosa, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Wichita on top, 2-1.
Bogue called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
