The Gateway Grizzlies took Wichita pitcher Santiago Villa's best shot and still were able to claim a win at FNB Field. The final score had Gateway getting past the Pilots, 6-2. Villa went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 5. Gateway reliever Cassidy Morton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Derrek Cooper was saddled with the loss. The 8th-place Grizzlies sport a record of 29-31.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Lucas Fane came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Wichita pitcher Derrek Cooper, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Gateway on top, 3-2.
"We didn't play well enough to win," said Wichita skipper Ryan Coleman.
