Fans of the Halifax Frigates who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Halifax win over the visiting Gateway Grizzlies, 3-2. Lee Vincent started for the home team against Steve Schmunk. Lee Vincent earned accolades for his performance.

Halifax took a 3-2 lead on Crescencio García's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Gateway pitcher P.J. Sayles in the bottom of the eighth.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Gateway manager Brian Hotard.
