Pérez Torches Frigates for 5 Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead Binghamton's 19-4 victory over the Halifax Frigates, shortstop Javier Pérez told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Double A-level is really something special."

The 22-year-old player earned his accolades at NYSEG Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Frigates.

"His swing is getting there," said Rumble Ponies skipper Jordan Ranjel, who spoke glowingly of Pérez after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Javier did that to perfection."

Javier Pérez hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Daniel Westerdale in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a sac fly in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Rafael Tamez in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Chandler Johnson in the 8th.

This year, Pérez has hit at a .329 clip with 57 hits, 6 home runs, 32 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
