Curve Best Baysox in Pitching Duel
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Altoona Curve and the Bowie Baysox, 21-year old right-handed pitcher A.J. Greenberg was the difference-maker. The Altoona right-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. Greenberg, now 2-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Jerad Brown earned the save for Altoona, his 9th.
Alexander Mendoza had a big run-scoring double for the Curve in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Altoona leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Marc Gagnon and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Curve ahead, 2-0.
"I like what I saw today," said Altoona manager Logan Longpre, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Altoona is now 62-35, Bowie 46-51.
