Patriots Make It 18 Straight with 5-1 Win
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 23-year old third baseman Riley Rhyne, the Somerset Patriots stopped the Halifax Frigates, 5-1. Somerset reliever Wade Benning got the win, raising his record to 1-3. Smokey Evans was tagged with the loss. Now 66-31, the Patriots have won 18 games in a row.
With Somerset leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Rhyne hit a slider from Smokey Evans for a solo home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Patriots ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager Colby Fleming: "I think Susan Sarandon said it, 'Hit it where they ain't.' We didn't do a very good job of that tonight."
