The Gateway Grizzlies defeated the Bowie Baysox, 8-0, in Eastern League action at Prince George's Stadium. Gateway pitcher Gavin Mendenhall had a standout performance. In 8 innings, Mendenhall surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Gateway, at 41-63, sits in last place in the Eastern League Southwest Division.

Gateway used a well-timed hit by Tom Fronda to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Grizzlies ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Mike Pascarella.
