The Providence Crabs got a sterling performance from pitcher Ferdinand Lane, but the Somerset Patriots still prevailed, 3-2. Lane threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Anrique Gonzalez, credited with the win in relief, is now 11-6. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. Kellen Howard sewed up the save, his 8th.

Somerset used the timely hitting of Ira Gutiérrez to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Patriots on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"The most important thing is that we won," Gutiérrez said.

Somerset is now 51-69, while Providence is 52-68.
