3-2 Win Sends Binghamton to 77-49
|
Jack Koster pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Lancaster Barnstormers, despite Koster's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at NYSEG Stadium. Yacinto Vargas, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. Wayne Corrie locked down his 14th save.
The Rumble Ponies got a big at-bat from right fielder Vito Montiel. For the game, Montiel was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 19th home run of the season gave Binghamton a 3-2 lead.
"It was a hard game, a hard night," said Lancaster skipper Josh Bieber.
The first-place Rumble Ponies go to 77-49.
