Curve Edge Erie in Pitching Duel
|
Despite the rain, the fans at People's Natural Gas Field enjoyed a good ballgame.
Altoona turned a fine outing from starter Hamid Pierce into a victory over the Erie SeaWolves at People's Natural Gas Field. The final score was 1-0. Pierce yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-7. Jeremiah Young got the save, the 29th for him this season.
Quince Benscoter took Erie hurler Maddox Zon deep in the bottom of the fourth. His solo home run put the Curve on top, 1-0. In all, Benscoter had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Benscoter told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The third-place Curve have won 4 in a row.
