Travelers Top Smokies in Extras, 4-3
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Dickey-Stephens Park, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2052 Double A season. On the mound was Cole Medina for the visiting Tennessee Smokies and Jack Maness for the hometown Arkansas Travelers. In a spirited contest, the Travelers pulled out the win, defeating the Smokies by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Cole Medina. Arkansas reliever Hayden Gutkin was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Jake Titus took the loss for Tennessee.
With runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the ninth, Radley Vidal delivered the knockout blow when he hit a 3-run home run to win it for Arkansas. In the contest, Vidal went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Vidal.
