Slumping Naturals Lose 6th Straight
|
The Shreveport Engineers took Northwest Arkansas pitcher Andy Piper's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Arvest Ballpark. The final score had Shreveport getting past the Naturals, 4-2. Piper went 6 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. Jim Hovekamp collected his 5th save. To call the performance of the 2062 Naturals subpar is an understatement.
Shreveport used the timely hitting of Bibiano Ortiz to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Engineers on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Ortiz called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
