Engineers Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Tulsa Drillers and the Shreveport Engineers, pitcher Michael Schmidt was the difference between victory and defeat. The Tulsa right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Drillers win. Tulsa pitcher Manuel Jiménez got the win, upping his record to 1-1. Jerom Hughes got the loss. Robby Whatley closed the door for Tulsa, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Tulsa took a 2-1 lead on Vincent Wooten's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run, which Wooten hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Shreveport pitcher Jerom Hughes visibly frustrated.
"Michael -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Drillers manager Isaiah Paulsen. "He was the key to us winning."
Shreveport, with the loss, is still a stout 16-7.
