The Midland RockHounds had to overcome a fine performance from St. Petersburg pitcher Jimmy Trostle to grab a 3-1 win at The Diamond. Trostle allowed 1 run over 6 innings. Reliever Fernando Jiménez picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Gerald Trevino took the loss. Getting the save was Jeremiah Whiting, his 5th.

Midland used the timely hitting of Kip Avilez to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the RockHounds on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said RockHounds manager Edgar Mendoza.

The win has Midland at 8-17.
