The Corpus Christi Hooks dealt the Shreveport Engineers a loss at Whataburger Field. The final score was 13-5. Jonas Gallant was especially productive for Corpus Christi. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 triple, he scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The winner was Corpus Christi reliever Gareth Kishikawa, now 1-0. The loser was Salomón Ramírez. The Engineers had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Hooks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Erik Smallwood came to the plate. Smallwood hit a grand slam home run on a 0-1 slider from Shreveport hurler Salomón Ramírez. It was Smallwood's 1st home run of the year.

"We lit up the scoreboard," said Corpus Christi manager Jim Kleeman.
