Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Mississippi Braves take on the Biloxi Shuckers.
Ethan Shirey never let Biloxi get something going. The Mississippi right-hander commanded his splitter in pitching the Braves to a 6-1 win. Shirey got the win, improving to 2-0. He gave up 2 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run.
The Braves got a big at-bat from second baseman Guillermo Balderas. For the game, Balderas went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Mississippi a 3-0 lead.
"Do what you're good at," said Mississippi manager Sandy Estrada. "That's all I ask of the team."
So far in 2064, Mississippi is 32-28.
