Missions Pull Out Late-Game Win, 5-4
|
Behind the hitting of José Benavides, the San Antonio Missions clipped the Tennessee Smokies, 5-4. Benavides was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk for the Missions. Isaac Stewart earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-7. San Antonio has now reeled off 7 straight wins.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 23-year old third baseman Ortiz Valtierra had a chance to be the hero. Tennessee pitcher Hunter Wells wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Valtierra hit a sacrifice fly. The Missions had themselves a thrilling win.
"It's what good teams do, find a way to win," said Benavides.
