Engineers Go Down to Defeat, 4-2
|
The Tennessee Smokies got a stellar performance from pitcher Jack Meloche, who handcuffed the Shreveport offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Smokies Park. Ronel Zelaya earned the save, his 8th. The Smokies move to 34-51 with the win, while the Engineers drop to 63-22.
Juan Chavez hit a bases-clearing triple off Jumbo Greene in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Smokies in front, 3-1. Chavez had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Meloche.
