Rumble Ponies Win, 17-5, at Gateway
|
Manuel Armijo led Binghamton to a win over Gateway. The final score was 17-5. Armijo scored 3 times, while going 3 for 4. The catcher also was credited with 1 run batted in. Charlie Henry, the winning pitcher, is now 2-0. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 1. Cristobal Batista earned the save for Binghamton, his 1st of the year.
The Rumble Ponies got an important contribution from third baseman Herb Rice, who in the top of the second punched a 1-2 slider into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Rumble Ponies ahead, 4-0.
"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Rice told a Binghamton News reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
The win leaves Binghamton with a record of 10-9.
