Dark Knights Topple Patriots, 8-6
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Dioner Mendes, the Yonkers Dark Knights defeated the Somerset Patriots, 8-6. Mendes went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Dark Knights. Earning his 5th save of the year was Leeroy Watson. For the Patriots, the loss makes their record 6-13.
In the bottom of the fifth, Yonkers right fielder Ruy Ortiz had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Ortiz stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 3-2, Yonkers. For the game, he went 1 for 4.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Dark Knights manager Dylan Adams. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
