The Surprise Sidewinders got a superb performance from pitcher Benjamim Carvalho, but the Gilbert Geckos still won the game, 4-3. Carvalho threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Donny de Groot earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-1. The win puts Gilbert at 1-1.

Gilbert used the timely hitting of Lee Asbury to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Geckos on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
