Fans of the Chandler Ranchers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Chandler win over the visiting Flagstaff Blue Devils, 5-4, in 12 innings. Papa Eastman started for the home team against Greg Parenteau. Kyle Lancaster earned accolades for his performance. Chandler reliever Pedro Sanchez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Elias Gima.

The decisive blow was delivered by Raymón Velazquez in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 18-year old right-handed pitcher Elias Gima to win the game for Chandler. The home crowd went nuts.

"That was intense," said Velazquez.
