Armadillos Snatch Late Win
|
The Florence Swordfish got a superb performance from pitcher Todd Sutphin. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Phoenix. The Armadillos won the game, 4-2. Sutphin threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The winner in relief was Tom Duckworth. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Grant Lerner earned save number 1 this season.
Phoenix used a timely hit from Connor Harris to get the win. The second baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Armadillos ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Harris said. "That's how it goes."
With the win, Phoenix is 5-1.
