Gales Stick Hurricanes with 5-4 Loss
|
The Hialeah Gales topped the Daytona Beach Hurricanes, 5-4, in Florida Rookie League action at Osceola County Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Hialeah pitcher and Santa Ana, California, native Nelo Gonzales. Gonzales, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 10, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Joachim Heller recorded the save for Hialeah, his 1st of the season.
Sawyer Quiterio, the 21-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Quiterio contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Hialeah up, 3-0.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Hialeah manager Javier Flores.
The win lifts Hialeah to a record of 5-1.
