The home crowd had a good time watching the Florence Swordfish and Ahwatukee Roughnecks get after it.

Ahwatukee second baseman Omero Veras played a vital role in his team's 11-9 conquest of Florence. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for Ahwatukee. The winner in relief was Al Lowry. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. Picking up the save was 18-year old right-handed pitcher Pierce Perkins.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ahwatukee catcher Peregrine Laurent had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Laurent stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 7-5, Ahwatukee. For the game, he was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs.

"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Laurent told the Ahwatukee Chronicle.

Florence, now 2-10, has gotten off to a terrible start.
