Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Tempe Impalas got the win.
Tempe beat Mesa on the strength of starting pitcher Bobby Schultz's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Schultz, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Lincoln Monsalvo.
The Impalas got a big at-bat from right fielder Jason Rowe. For the game, Rowe went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Tempe a 3-2 lead.
