Welch Hits Two Homers in 15-7 Win for Scottsdale
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Scottsdale Salamanders and Surprise Sidewinders.

The Scottsdale Salamanders knocked off the Surprise Sidewinders, 15-7, at Hohokam Park. Calvin Welch was a big reason Scottsdale won. The third baseman was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 8. The winner in relief was Wilson Lopez. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings.

With Scottsdale leading 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth, Welch hit a sinker from Ethan Matheson for a bases-clearing double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Salamanders ahead, 8-4.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Welch told the Scottsdale News. "It's as simple as that."

The loss drops the Sidewinders to 4-5.
