Saguaros Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Geckos, 2-0
The Mesa Saguaros earned a win at Camelback Ranch, stopping the Gilbert Geckos, 2-0. Starting pitcher Charles Shelton played a big role in his team's success. Picking up the save was J.D. Garcia, his 2nd. The win brings the Saguaros to 4-9, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Mesa used the timely hitting of Britt Williamson to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Saguaros on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"The old adage is true," said Williamson. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
