Diplomats Blank Cordoba, Rivera Winner Monday, August 20th, 2007 The Cordoba Scorpions were almost helpless today in their 8-0 loss to the Jiutepec Diplomats and hurler Elija Rivera. Rivera kept the Scorpions confused all game, spinning a 11-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Rivera," Cordoba manager Sergio Nava said in his postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 24-year-old left-hander had 4 walks and 11 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Rivera said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way." This season Rivera has compiled a 6-8 mark, 4.73 ERA and made 23 starts. View Boxscore |
